History

The Plymouth County All-Stars youth hockey program was founded by members of the Metropolitan Boston Hockey League in 1977. George Sullivan, the father of Mike Sullivan head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, became General Manager of the Plymouth County All-Stars and changed the name to The Bay State Sharks in 1990. George operated the program for 13 years. In 2003 George transferred the program over to one of his former players Tom MacDonald and friend John Cashman. Tom and John then changed the name of the program to the Bay State Breakers. After inheriting 9 boys and 2 girls’ teams, John assumed the title President and Tom Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations. Since that time the program has evolved into the one of the largest Boys & Girls program in the region with nearly 50 teams and growing. In 2004 the Bay State Breakers, Boston Jr. Eagles, Boston Jr. Terriers, Boston Bandits(formerly Hobomock Chiefs), Middlesex Islanders, Minuteman Flames, Providence Capitals (formerly Providence Friars), South Shore Kings, and Top Gun all left the MBHL for the Eastern Hockey Federation, New England Girls Hockey League and The Eastern Minor Hockey League.
